Every fourth time you look at your tank(least once a day)...your anemone will look like it's dying! At least Once a day you will have a heart attack SURE the poor thing is kicking the bucket....going to start vomiting guts and poison the whole tank. So course you start researching, and testing all the water chems, irked while lighting should be just fine "she" picked a low flow low light spot, should I turn that rock lot more light on top??....... Only for "her" to return to looking very happy and healthy an hour later.....

I work at home, with tank in the "office"....week into owning my first RBT and thinkin I might die from this stress. Maybe I shouldnt look?

Seriously?

I have had my nem about 4 years or so. And yes it did flatten like 2 or 3 times or the whole times I have had it. I have had cloudy water 2-3 times already. However it is no big deal as when you are about to post ....the thing is back to normal so you end up not posting :-) sounds right?

2-3 times in 4 years......is totally different from least once every 24 hours.

I need to see pictures then :-).
I don't know if someone has vision issue lol. I know the nems shrink when the lights are out but most the time, nems look similar when the lights are on. They don't change much within the 8-10 hours the lights are on.

I had a bubble tip that would deflate about ever couple days or so it seamed like and looked to me to be very heathy, It's their natural behavior. Weather the amount of times they do it, relate to their heath, I really don't know about.

My green bta. Goes from being completely open to closed and tiny. I would say about once a week it dose not come out at all for a day then the next day it's huge, fully open. Some days it is out all day, then others it's out for a few hours. It is very strange. There has been meant times I was about to post then the next day it looks great. Mine has never cause cloudy water though

If your nem vomits once a day then your tank is done within a month I think ;-)

I think my first reef tank was in 2005.... and this one is just fine.

Got pics. though...

These issues seem to be popping up quite a bit lately. There are really only I want to know when I see these problems.
1) How old is the tank
2) How long has the Nem been in the tank
3) What is your Alk swing like over 24hrs & Is there dosing involved.

-Nems really shouldnt be introduced to any tank that is less than 6months old. And the less experienced reefer should wait longer.
-If the Nem has only been in tank a few days to a couple weeks then just leave it be. It will find it's way. Especially if it has attched itself. If it's not happy chances are it's going to be on the move.
- If your alk swings more than 0.5 dKh then that needs to be addressed. And if you are dosing to much or the Nem is getting a blast of Alk then it's going to shrink.

Really? .5 alk will cause stress too nems? My tank is over a year and nem is going on about 2 months. Has stayed in place. And other then what I said above always seems fine. Mouth is never gaping. It has attached it's self under a rock and reaches around to top side of rock for light. But if .5 alk is an issue that is proble the cause of mibe

The Nem is probably not expelling waste, but rather Zooxanthellae. It's acclimating to the lights and surrondings (water). If it releases to much you will see it start to bleach. Again, if it's still attached to a spot the best thing is to leave it. The Zooxanthellae will reproduce and things will slowly get back to normal.

.5 alk swings in general are not good. If your tank is using .5dkh of alk a day then you need to be dosing some 2 part or Kalk. From the sounds of it your Nem is doing just fine. 2 months isn't that long. But how the Nem has attached itself is very common. The trick to getting a Nem to move is to change the flow rate/pattern and let the Nem move by itself. Thing is if it moves to the back of the rock structure and is facing the back wall, then you are stuck with it. Until the Nem decides to move. So be happy if it is visible.

I thought a nem only expelled zooxanthellae when being stressed/about to let go...... I don't think if his nem releases its zooxanthellae daily due to stress or any other reason.
