This is a small shell. I'll post a picture of a big one tommorow if there's one out. I have a size 15.5 foot, and here's a smallish shell

I have been doing some work with horse crabs lately on long island sound. You have to see how big some of the females get. We had bunch that were over 18 inches wide.
The big ones are the females. The males stay pretty small and have hooks for there front claws.

wow, thats huge. that is a reason ill also never get one lol

Lol I didnt realize they were a reefing commodity. I see them all the time just scuddling around on the sand bottom doing their thing but didnt realize people put them in there tanks! Youd need a massive tank to house some of the ones I've seen!!!

Local petco here has tiny ones in almost every week! I'm never sure if they are bought or die in the store tank.

They are not good for fishtanks, they always end up stuck to powerheads and clogging overflows.

I have one but I also have means to take care of it. It started out in my 10 gallon nano now its in my 90 gallon reef and when it gets bigger it will go into the sw pond we built. It definantly keeps the sand clean. And he never leaves the sand. There a great addition to a salt water tank if you do your research to see how big they get and make sure you have enough food to substain them.
