Why I love my Metal Halide

I've used a water/vinegar mix or rubbing alcohol
Thanks I didn't know what to use either. What would you do for the ballast or the outside metal part of the reflector?

Finally got my light in. I'll need to get a better ballast sometime but for now this will have to do. Buddy upgraded to a 400w so he sold me his old 250w for $50. And the guy he got the 400w from had a 10 week old 250w 20k radium he only used for 3 hours/day for $30 so in all now I've got $80 for the MH and $70 for the vho. A few pics.
Famous radium bulb starting up.

That great 20k look

m58 ballast. Want a reef cube or lumatek 250w hqi

Vho I got. I would say pretty nice for a 2 year old set up.

I put to radium's over my 40b 2 days ago just to see how it responds. Probably will move one to the fresh tank, but I like it a lot

The m58 ballast is not recommend to use with a radium bulb. They don't fire them correctly.
Yea. It doesn't fire up right away. I need a m80. Figure this will get it going for now until I get some extra cash for one.

Here's the number one reason why I love my metal halides! Less than 2 months of growth!

Galaxy select-a-watt 400 watts and 20K Radiums on turbo setting! I run the lights 8 hours a day. No other supplemental lighting at the moment. I'm planning on adding ReefBrite strips in the very near future just so I can give the aquarium 12 hours of lightning a day.

@jackson6745 I know you said it would be overkill and I thought so also but I had to try anyway:D I added the second radium 2 weeks and a couple days ago. The first pic is the night I added it and the second pic is from tonight. If this keeps up I'm keeping it hung

Still loving your MH?

I ran MH for 10+ years and now using Gen4 radions. I do miss the look of MH lighting which I believe is the closest thing to the sun and the results are proven... One thing I feel needs improvement on LED is the disco ball shimmer, It totally trips me out.. There are pros and con's for each - most vital Pro to me is the well being of the animals.. stability and redundancy goes to LEDs and so do I....

I couldn't agree more.
