Hey guys, I got a nikon d5100 a while back and I think I got the hang of taking pictures for the most part but here is my problem. I want to shoot videos with my camera and when I go to upload them on the computer the file is in RAW and the colors are all wonky like I have to go in and edit the colors back to normal. I don't have editing software so when I take pictures I set the settings on the camera the best I can and that's that but I can play back the video on the camera and it looks just like it should and then on the computer the colors are grayed out and weird. Please help me with this. Are there some kind of videos settings I have to change? Why is my video shooting in RAW when I have the camera shooting in JPEG Normal? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hold down the Menu and Info buttons at the same time for a few seconds and it will do a hard reset to factory settings. I had to do it a few months ago. Hope this helps.

If it's anything like my better camera's(Canon and Sony) with manual settings, you go into the menus and specify the format. On a DSLR, you might have to go into the video mode on the physical dial if you can't get a movie mode via the LCD.

You may, also have to change the resolution that you are shooting. It may automatically shoot in raw in higher frame sizes.

Just throwing things out.

I googled the question and there are videos outlining what to do for certain situations. Try that if you can. I just entered---reset video settings on d5100 in my browser.

Thanks I'll check out that link. I youtubed it to no avail but maybe I just didn't put the right search words in. Shooting in a higher resolution sounds like maybe it could have something to do with it. I have gone into every video setting I can find on the camera and can't find a way to change it from RAW. I don't even see an option. The only reason I know it's in RAW is bc the program that I open the video with on the computer says it's in RAW format.

you should call the company. they can help you out via coustumer service. they can walk you threw the steps if they no what your problem is.

hope this helps. Good luck!

There has to be some type of setting in there. I did not even know there was a video setting for raw. Maybe it the HQ mode have you tried changing that? I shoot canon and my DSLR doe not have Video mode just tossing out ideas.
