Why is my foxface chasing my new fish around while being defensive?

I recently bought some new tangs “powder tang and clown tang” and my foxface is chasing them around with his spikes up and i have no idea why he has never done this before.

He's defending his territory. Foxfaces are generally timid but can be territorial with fish of similar body shape.

What size is your tank (dimensions) and what other fish do you have?

Its a 125g (73 in L x 20 in W x 24 in H) I have clowns, brown powder tang, blue tang, butterfly auriga

Keep a close eye on it.

Similar shaped fish can have some problems.

They should be okay after a few days in a 120g as foxfaces are pretty easy going but be prepared to intervene if you have too.

Will do thanks… If i was to tank out the foxface and rearrange the tank will that help if he does continue to be aggressive?

I wouldn't rearrange the tank unless absolutely necessary.

If you have another tank you could shift the foxface there for a couple of days just to confuse it a little.

You could also place a mirror or 2 on the outside of the tank.
