why is my mag 24 so loud???

just started my new system. are they really suppose to be loud. just took it apart to clean it and put it back together and its still loud. im running a 100 gallon display with a 30 gallon sump, 20 gallon fuge, and a 29 gallon skimmer tank. drains are dual 1.5" pipes with dursos in the overflow. mag 24 returns the water through a 1.5" pipe with a 2 inch check valve. im thinking about down sizing to 1" return. what do you think????????

1.5 inch is a huge pipe to push a mag 24 through imo. Could be backpressure maybe?

mags in general are very loud IMO...... I have used about 3 of them and switched over to the oceanrunners and they are MUCH more quiet and run more efficient/smoother..

take it apart and make sure the shaft isn't cracked. also feel ur finger inside the hole and see if the magnet has a crack in it. I've had both break and both make the pump super loud!

very good info, plus its a 24.... they seem to get louder as they get bigger, especially if it is vibrating against the side or bottom.

yea...another secret is to put something spongy under the mags as they'll vibrate more than most other pumps.

yeah it all worked nice in my head, but when i actually heard it its not the way i want it. i oversized the return because i wanted no chance of restriction and i wanted flow not pressure. any other pump options that will give me the same flow??? ill also be running a mag 9.5 for my side display and a mag 7 for my skimmer. my next option is to coat the inside of my stand with 1.5 inch foam insulation. that will stop the sound!!!!!!!!!!
