Lower the skimmer to raise body water height
Why is my skimmer acting like this?

Yea I have a bubble King skimmer and have gone thru countless threads and spoke with the royal exclusive rep and it's because your skimmer will work great for a while and then idle and over and over its because there isn't enough Doc's in the system to keep it steady

Ok guys I got it back up n running. Kinda feel stupid about this cause it's such a tiny thing but I'm glad I figured it out so others might look into this first. Ok so I was cleaning the entire skimmer and while putting it back together I pushed the Venturi intake back in place as it should be and as I'm pushing it moved the pump just a hair back on the pump mounting plate. So long story short this was giving me way to much thrust on one side of the skimmer body causing the foam to pre mature break in the neck. So after all that mess that's the problem. Any slight off center will throw your skimmer out of whack!!

That was my though my skimmers have all done this and all of them are to big for my tank (or thats what people say not me I like it this way) you can always test the theory of your bioload cant keep up with the skimmer by getting a crap load of frozen cubes of food and overfeed the crap out of the tank for 1 night and see if it makes it to the cup then. I bet it does

you can't go to big but you can go to small. If your skimmer never stops skimming then it's export may not be keeping up with your import. But if you can't get the water/foam to overflow then either the skimmer is not in deep enough water or you have a pump problem.
I bought the Icecap K2-120 for my 40B. Rated for tanks 75-120g. It's been my experience thus far that, there is such a thing as going to big with a skimmer. Especially if your tank lacks DOC, if you're religiously doing bi-weekly WC and running a sock. My skimmer stalls also.
According to the creators of most skimmers I've researched, the majority highly recommend getting a skimmer that's best suited for your actual water volume & bio-load. I totally understand why they say this. 2wks out of a month my skimmer pulls nothing. Then it does this....

Took mine apart today for a full cleaning and after reassembling it did the same. My goof was that I didn't tighten the bottom enough...there is a reason the nylon bolts have a slot. Water takes the path of least resistance and if you remember that you can find most of your issues.
