Ok so long story short. This is the 3rd Yellow Tang that we have tried. The last two did not make it through quarantine. We bought this guy on Thursday and put him in our 10gal QT. Water was crystal clear and he was happy/healthy looking. Woke up this am and the tank was white and cloudy, tang was on his side. Did a quick water change that helped a bit (fish was up and swimming) but water was still a bit cloudy. I know some may not agree but we decided to put him in our DT to see if he would make it. We put him in the tank at 12 (water was clear and perfect), just got home at 5pm and the tank is cloudy!! DT is a 210gal with a 75 gal fuge. Any idea what this fish is doing!? Just checked all parameters, everything is normal except for the Nitrate is at 40. Nothing else was changed with this tank, just adding the Yellow Tang...I am at a loss

Wonder if he had something on him causing a bacteria bloom?
Your ammonia is at 0 though right?
Just do some more water changes as you make new water/ letting it settle, keep checking your #'s...skim wet....
My only other thought is whatever was contaminating the other tank transferred over with the fish?

Had the same thing with a convict tang I bought. I never had clody water before this guy. I hardly ever by fish maybe that's y. I put a uv sterilizer in a day in a half super clear. Tang had something. Now I stick with the 4 fish I have in my reef.

This is where Im leaning.

I think it is probably bacteria that was on the fish and then began multiplying like crazy in the water. A uv sterilizer would be best on a reef tank. Watch the other fish for signs of infection.

+1 Bacteria Stress through purchase an move probably didn't help the situation.

How did the fish look when purchased? I always thoroughly inspect a fish before buying. Stare at it like a creeper for quite a bit. :)
