Dear all,
Few months ago, I bought an ATS with 4x 9w led bar (2 bars each side). It runs 1 bar each side 16 hours daily. The screen grows the dark algae only and the NO3 never drops (NO3: 25, PO4: 0.1).
Few days ago my friend gave me some ulva intestinalis. For treating hitchhike parasite, bacteria ... I dipped it in RO water mixed with Brightwell Recover Fish M in few hours. Later, I seeded it on the screen, but after 2 days it became bleached and dead.
Could you please let me know why is my algae dead?
Thanks

because you dipped it in ro water, this kills the algae. Especially for a few hours, it had no chance to survive in that as it basically pops its cells
Thanks for your information
Could tou please show me how to kill the parasites, bacteria ... that may hitchhike?

I would of sloshed it around in some saltwater and added it.

The other option would be to setup an observation tank and leave the ulva in there for 76 days, then into the reactor. 76 days should be ling enough to kill most unwanteds.

What exactly are you worried about? Even if you kill off the hitchhikers most of them will just repopulate the algae once it starts growing from your own system, not everything has to be blindly eradicated. Other than quarantine theres not a lot you can do.

MTBake do you think the UV light can help?

I used to dip chaeto in RO for few hours but ok. My display tank just finishs 76 day fallow. I worry about the parasites, bacteria ... may put in.
Can I dip ulva intestinalis with medicine?

Yes, it can. I run uv light 24/7.

I also don't think you need to worry about this at all, unless your friend which gave you the ulva is having problems with their tank. I would just add it or find another more trustworthy source.

Yes his tank has ich, that’s the problem. There is no trustworthy source here in Vietnam.
I have a Green Killing Machine UV. Can put some ulva inside this machine (without flow) for 24 hours?

Putting ulva inside the uv will kill the ulva. Best to put it into a separate tank for 76 or more days to end the ich life cycle.

If putting ulva in a separate tank without flow it will be ok?
How about dipping with medicine?
