Why is my Yellow Watchman Goby white?

My captive-bred yellow watchman goby is... not yellow. It's far more whitish. It was shipped to me and it's in quarantine right now. It's from BIOTA and very small, probably only .75 in. Any thoughts?

That's normal, they sometimes change their colors. Same happened with mine, then when it formed a pair with my other matchman it turned orange. I've heard they can also stay whitish.

I’d love to hear your experiences pairing Watchman Gobies. Are they easy to pair? Any fighting?

Read only one male per tank as two males can fight to death. I have one and most of the time he spends out of the burrow he's fighting his reflection on the glass.

They change sex, so just add two, preferably a big one and a small one. It happened with no difficulties in my tank

Not sure if you’re still thinking about this but I added a YWG not long ago and have since provided it a single pistol shrimp and they are a fascinating pair. I was worried that they might not hit it off but I tossed the shrimp in a few days after getting the goby and they found each other over night and have been inseparable since. Very fun!

Update: After a few months in the display, he's now paired with my pistol shrimp and is a proper bright yellow. Color changed pretty dramatically.
