Why is the alkalinity lower in some salt mixes

Yes but mine isn’t that high anymore and still having issues.

Maybe the place you are getting them from is not a good source.

They may also be among the more susceptible to copper.

Unlikely. They’ve come from two sources, one local, one not, both highly regarded. Anything is possible of course but not likely. Obviously I’ll probably never figure it out since it isn’t any of the easily proven issues. There’s nowhere copper could come from in my system.

I have not. I wouldn’t expect to find anything unless my salt was contaminated but it certainly wouldn’t hurt. Best place to do that?

why? There are all sorts of sources, and salt mixes are rarely an issue. It’s all the other stuff we reefers expose the water to, either intentionally or accidentally, that is more often the issue.
