Why is the SPS AB+ setting so white with radions?

Title, I hate whites in my reef tank, to my eyes all the corals seem washed out

I recently saw a JFox video where he strictly runs BLUES only. What's the point of AB+ SPS being so white? Its keeps at nearly 24% all-day

Jason fox doesn’t run radions or any semblance of any Ab+ program. That’s like saying “why is the ab+ program so blue? Battlecorals runs 6500k halides”

the ab+ program is what it is. Developed by ONE aquaculture facility and then promoted By Ecotech and then adopted by many hobbyists. It was never promised to be a pure actinic viewing profile. It was advertised to promote aggressive growth and pigment developmend. Not necessarily to be a solid blue panora-at-night fluorescence show

I don’t use it, but having seen it many many times. It looks visually similar to a 20,000k metal halide, or a roughly even mix of ati blue+ and coral+. Neither of which would ever be considered anything other than bluish white

But does it really promote growth and color? Warm white/white/red/green at 24% then everything else is set to 100%

plenty of data out there to indicate that it does if everything else is as it should be
 
Also. For what it is worth (and the people with some decades in the hobby will know these details), blueness is entirely relative.

in the horticultural world, as well as the planted tank world, 6500k bulbs are considered “blue”. Many horticultural vegetative state 6500k bulbs are actually labeled as “blue”

Around the turn of the century, 10,000k bulbs were considered by some too blue to even grow coral effectively. Anecdotal chatter on forums I mean. Don’t ask for empirical data.

As time goes on, preference has gotten SO blue in visual aesthetic that people new to the hobby now consider Radiums bulbs “too yellow” and even the Blue+ t5ho bulb to be “too white”. It seems a large number of hobbyists now genuinely wish to run a tank ONLY on royal blue LEDs. Which is odd to me. I can handle that look for a couple hours a day at most. But it gets so boring.

Overall, again, the AB+ program was never intended to be for late night viewing. It is a growth generating program that one facility felt worked well for them and people generally succeed with. If it’s too white for you. Turn the colors down. But to that point....If all you want is blue, then why buy a full spectrum led panel? Just doesn’t Make sense to buy a 190 watt (or whatever it is) led panel for nearly $900, only to wish to shut down 4 of its channels entirely. At that point just get some blue led strips and be done.
 
Also, it has only been posted a thousand times that the "blue" bulbs that Jason Fox said in that video are like are somewhere near Blue Plus from ATI, which are a full spectrum bulb with lots of other spectrum too. Even then, you can see some MH on his tanks that he runs too which he has since talked about. That was a long time ago, so no idea what he does now...

Well I do run whites/red/green but very low around 3% at ramp up and 6% at peak then back down to 3% at ramp down

I dont run 100% only blues for the 2nd half of my schedule like they do.
This is my setup of what the schedule looks like. Then my afternoon settings. then the more blue late-day settings.

BRS and other sources state red/green promote algae growth?

I have watched plenty of people claim it does nothing with that. Plus the red and green ch have very small amount of led. The amount of red and green I am using is the same or less then ab+ so it’s not like it’s running at 100%

Algae in a display is more a product of poor herbivore stock or performance. You can use 6500k halides and have an algae free tank or blue LEDs only and have hair algae grow out of the water. It just depends on what is in there to eat it
 
Prior to using Radion® G3 Pros RW (Reef Wholesale) determined that the best coloration and growth in their SPS corals were achieved using T5 bulbs. Specifically *ATI Blue Plus and *ATI AquaBlue Special in a combination of 80%/20% and specifically in *ATI Powermodules. In the same time period given the same parameters and frags from the same mother colony, this T5 bulb mix generally outperformed (for most, but not all corals) their original lighting staple, metal halide................. Matching and then improving the performance of the Radion® G3 Pros over the T5 ATI bulbs took RW the better part of a year. Initially a visual match provided a starting point, but given that the eye is a poor tool for evaluating lighting, additional refinement took a combination of PAR measurement and spectral analysis. Although the visual appearance of the light output was different between the T5 bulbs and the Radions®, coral response was similar if not identical. From there further adjustment of the spectrum and fortnightly reviews resulted in a spectrum that outperformed the T5 benchmark.
