What are your water parameters. Looks like a pretty young tank.

Its month old.

No ammonia, nitrites.

Nitrates are under 5...looks like zero, but I doubt it is.

Phosphates read zero.

Salinity 1.025

ALK: between 7-8

Calcium 460-480.

any fish picking on it?
I had 2 where my angel would pick at it and it would retract like that.

I ended up moving it and putting it in a basket hung from top of the tank. It recovered and would swell up big, i put it back on the sand and it immediately retracted back to that again. I ended up trading it so it didnt get damages.

Could be the flow also....

+1, exactly what mine looked like after the tangs were eating it.

I do have a golden pygmy angel, but I don't see him nipping at it. It looks like its receding. When you say it could be the flow...do you mean too much? I have a DC1200 return pump, cranked all the way with two MP 40's. The tank is a 200.

i cant say too much or too little.
I did 2 things, i put up a camera and saw my Angel picking at it
then i moved it to the basket and noticed it got much better.
After a week or two i put it back on the sand and immediately it retracted in.
Back to the basket.

I got a shower basket from amazon and just hooked it to the top of my tank.

it looks like something is eating it. Try moving it to a different location or better yet the fuge so it can heal and puff up back to normal. Just be on the lookout for any other corals with meaty flesh. One of your fish is eating it. Do you have any blennies? I had a blenny that started to have a feast on all my acans.

it shouldn't matter for a week or two. That may make it come out more looking for light so it may be good.
Before the basket i put mine in a 2 gal tank with a weak Led light that came with the 2 gal tank. It puffed up huge in there.

Also if you do see it puff up and looking for food, feed it if you have anything to feed it. I have coral frenzy but you can feed it anything small size.
Only if you see it opening and looking for food. If you put food on it and it stays there for a while baste it back out.

well thats good then, if it fills in the empty skeleton thats good. If it puffs beyond that, even better. Now you have to identify whats bothering it in your tank....

I actually just had to get rid of mine due to my new Golden Dwarf picking at it. Those angels seem to love anything fleshy that has a slime coat.
