Why Not Keep It Simply?

Today theirs so much new equipment. Are we making it simply or harder ? Are we making it more expensive hobby? Does paying more mean it's better ? Which is the best salt? Expensive or your basic salts. The more equipment we buy. Your going to need a back up plan. Are we becoming more dependent on better and high tech equipment? Or should we do more Manuel work and keep it simply?

I think part of it is the more high end stuff are more reliable and have undergone testing in which results were published also tanks and their contents(corals & fish) are getting expensive because some of us have such large tanks. So by not cheaping out it's acting as it's own insurance. Also people don't want to do as much manual labor with their tank and want to automate the entire thing if possible and just enjoy looking their tank. Sadly, economies of scale don't apply to smaller hobbies like this and so things are expensive. But I believe anyone can do and enjoy this hobby at even a tight budget.

It's all about affordability and some might overdo it to an extent of showing off. There is nothing wrong with either one. It's sad to see a lot of new reefers abandoning this hobby when it goes over their spending limit. I was once feel this hobby as an expensive piece of s***, but I am lucky enough to learn that with bit of luck, finding the cheapest way to run a successful tank is very possible. Look around, you will find some nice tank running nothing more than a small sump, budget tight equipment and a ton of rocks. I am one of them (poor man reefer) and I am proud of it.

Keep it simple if you are on tight budget!
