Why talking about color with people can be hard.

So firstly I want to say -- All people have different eyes. The way we all perceive color is different. And staring at the same exact item, can be different to two people standing right next to one another. It may be different in that some people see a deep blue as purple, or, different in the sense that one's interpretation of color may be dissimilar to ours. I just find this interesting. And it's shed light on how we may go out to buy a "red" coral to end up with a Pink-based 'red' instead.

This came to mind when I took a few pictures today, of 3 "red" corals. The top down shots make it more apparent, so here's the top downs. With my definition of the colors in parenthesis.



Reef Raft Diablo -- "Pink Red"

Red Planet -- "Purple Red"

JF Fox Flame -- "Red Red"

I'v spoken with various people about all of these corals. Depending on the circumstance, as in, how it looks in their tank, to their eyes, to their recollection -- The only thing I've heard about all of these corals are "They're Red".

Then to make matters worse you get photos that are taken with dark background and heavily modified in order to sell the coral, making it even more difficult to define a color for a given piece. I actually just did a thread on this too showing the differences.
