What is the big rush with cycling?

I would think that the money that goes into a big reef tank would be well spend slowly right? Letting nature do its job and preparing for the future inhabitants.

I guess the notion that people decide they want a reef tank in the excitement of seeing someone else's and want to "catch up" or what not.

I like going slow and steady.

Remember the tortoise always beats the hare.

All my friends and family have wondered why I have been so slow with my tank. I started it in September. I did not get the first fish in till November 30th. My replies to why I am taking so long, is this is a big investment, and these are animals, their lives matter and should not be taken lightly. I want to do it right.

no rush here. learned alot of lessons from my fw setups. gave into the impulses, forgot my patience, and had nothing but headaches. want my first marine to be pure enjoyment and no regrets, plus it is a huge investment and i cant drop large sums of money all at once on a sump, lighting, ro/di,etc.....

have had new tank since mid oct. filled with water mid nov. added live rock and a bottle of bio-spira 4 days ago. waiting at least a week and a half before i add my first fish even though tests are coming up 0's across the board.

This is a great reminder!

We live in a "fast food" type of society so people want is now and fast!

I don't want to knock any speed cycle products but I just don't see how someone can throw a reef together without having issues in the time it takes to cycle a freshwater tank. What kills me even more is that people want their freshwater tanks filled with fish the moment it's home.

People will go to a pet store and the employees will sell them everything they need to setup. It's up to them to let the customer buy livestock right away.

I think setting up to quickly costs more than money. It costs enthusiasm. If you set up before the cycles lay their course you could loose your whole tank to algae and give up.

You see stores sending people home with a tank, prime, and goldfish all the time. Goldfish are hardy but its cruel
