I've used carbon from the beginning, i like it because if a coral decides to snot a tank I don't have to worry about it. Or if some other critter releases something. I've always ran mine in a brs reactor and use brs rox. I also believe people who have issues from it don't rinse it well or are using it in a mesh bag and it gets out into the water. I always rinse mine in the sink every change, then Do a five gallon water change running water through it before adding the return to the tank. If the water is coming out clear, I'll do another five gallon water change through it. I better knock on wood, but I've never had any issues from using it...but a the end of last year I did have a massive tank crash to 90% of my coral and anemones that I never figured out what caused it. I was running my carbon then and there was a recall on some...but I have no idea if it helped cause it or not. I still use it today, never took it offline to see if my tank liked it or not.
