Why wont coralline algae grow in my tank?

Try turning your green and white lighting up a little. I’ve found that it grows well in my tank, which has high green and white light, and is a little dirty.

My 120 is 6 month old this month.
Temp 79
Alk 8
Ca 420
Mg 1350
Sr 8
I .06
T5 3C+ 3B+ @ 9HRS
I run DSR trace daily
Esv strontium weekly.
Zero water change system.
The white coralline is dead from asterina starfish. Thinking about a harliquin shrimp before they multiply.
Started with 30lbs live 30lbs caribsea rock.
Parameter "Stability" has been my key over the years.

I still scrutinize my 18 month old tank 2x/day for pinpoints of pink/purple. All you people and your excessive coralline growth!

Once your corals take off you will forget you ever wanted purple rocks. Seriously, the goal is to eventually see very little rock!
Could not have said it better myself!
The rocks are a platform and filtration for the tank. I would rather see all corals and no rocks eventually. Thats the plan.

I too had good sps growth and all the same things that you describe. I started dosing strontium and I saw it start to grow and grow and a good pace. It stated to finally actually grow on the back wall and now it’s half covered in 3 months. It should be high enough in salt mix etc etc but all I can tell you is all my parameters are held in check and I do a water change every week and the strontium made the difference.

Have you noticed any difference @Zeal ? My tank is also coralline free at 9 mo. Not a terrible issue but I prefer to see it growing.

Try purple helix if you haven’t. It really worked for me. A month after I used it my rocks were completely covered. Keep alk, cal, mag, slightly elevated and stable. Keep temp and salinity rock solid. You should have a ton in no time.

I dosed esv strontium from day 1. 3ml every saturday and it keeps it at .06 ish currently in my 120. Did the same in my 25 nano at 1/2 ml a week with similar results.

Yes , purple helix works good . Be careful what you wish for.

If you add it (mag) it will come. LOL
Get mag up to around 1400, it will grow then you can complain about how hard it is to keep your glass/acrylic clean.

Too many remedies here. I don't grow coralline in my display very much. But my sump grows it like crazy. So that tells me it's lighting issue.

I agree turn up green lights and get your levels where they should... and then bam! Coralline everywhere!
