Why would a clown fish stop hosting a BTA for a hammer

I have two clown fish that that I have had for about 2 years now. They have been hosted by my bta for about 6 months. Recently as of a few nights. My male clown has been sleeping in my hammer coral instead of the bta. Any one know why this would happen. It doesn't really bother me just curious of why.

Are they mature enough to produce? Many times male clowns will pick a spot for the female to lay her eggs. He will stick around long enough to make sure it's cozy and safe. With the close proximity of your RBTA, I'd look into it.

I don't think the male is. He is pretty small still.

But I will keep an eye for eggs. Oh and it's 48in long tang and my hammer is almost on the other side of tank then bta

Better neighborhood? Likes the view. Who knows for sure. Mine switched to a powerhead to host for a bit after hosting a bta. No idea why. Didnt last long maybe 2 weeks.

My female simply doesn't let the male stay with her In the Nem. He can hang around by day but gets chased away at lights out and sleeps nearby.

Mine lay near their bta, but the female is always off exploring and hanging in her other homes (prior to bta). She comes back frequently when she feels like moving the male.

As saltyphish says, who knows. Not unusual though, so no worries.

What species of clown fish do you have?

If BTA is not the natural host to your clowns, they may chose something else as a host. Like an Euphyllia.
If you have ocellaris or percula, they may choose something other than a BTA because that anemone is not their natural host.

Here is my pair of Miami Whites. There is no anemones in this 29 biocube, only frogspawns and hammers, among other corals. They host separate frogspawns and occasionally visit each other during the day. I can relate, cause my relational life is very similar, this and that, with options, like the Seinfeld episode between Elaine and Jerry![emoji4]

Mine did that at first. I think its a this is mine thing back off. After a while mine started allowing the male in. Until my nem split. Now each has their own nem no sharing
