Why do zoas melt? I had one darth maul frag and it finally grew two heads, I was so excited. Now it melted in 24 hours, what the heck!!!

yeah use to have this happen to me.. but once i start dosing Vitamin C never happened again.. and now its been 5 months without melting.. SAAAWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTT!!!

so no reason ? it just happens randomly.. its sad when you start to see things go well, then suddenly it melts.

I've had zoas melt due to drastic temp increases/decreases.

Also may be some lighting issues.

I think there's a lot of environmental conditions that will cause a zoa to melt.
For me, typically they melt to spite me I'm pretty sure.

I dose Vitamin C as well and rarely lose zoas. I just buy 500mg tablets at the local pharmacy with rose hips and drop 2 in per week

Colin Foord, in his article "In Praise of Zoas" suggested that melting may in fact be tied to seasonal growth spurts, followed by a period of dormancy and then die back that naturally occurs in wild populations of zoanthids.

If you are considering dosing with Vit. C, I recommend taking the time to read through the threads on it and educate yourself on the topic. I know some individuals who have crashed their entire tank by dosing Vit. C
