sorry about the clik bait title..
I have a small rant...
why is it that the first reaction when we see something in the tank that we do not recognize for 90% of the people in this hobby is HOW DO I GET RID OF IT!
annoys the crap out of me.. We have pieces of the least understood environment in the world in our tanks and most peoples first reaction with anything new is to see if they should kill it.

Totaly, totaly agree with you. Years ago our local fish store used to have their live rock arrive in water and when you bought it you could end up with some great things, clams tube worms, all sorts, yes somtimes you got mantis shrimps but if you didnt like them they were easily dealt with. Now all the live rock is cured, or effectively sterilised pre sale, so if there is any life on it , its killed and effective ly you just buy what ever bacteria is still alive deep in the rock, if its Tufa rock, or your buying nothing if its solid ocean rock
