Finally got my sample last night. I was told its ostreopsis :( Why do i keep getting this algae?? Can someone tell me how to get rid of it permanently? Ive been running a UV sterilizer 12 hrs a night on and off for a month. I will have to get an up to date water test this evening. I had this same algae like 3 months ago and had 2 tanks crash. Ive already lost so much money last year, If I keep losing Im just gonna have to throw in the towel I think.

Dinoflaggelates is a long term issue. I do not believe that you eradicate them, but build up competitors to outgrow them. There is a mile long thread out there I would encourage you to read. I love that you have a UV sterilizer. I run it 24/7. Is it correctly sized for your tank, is the flow correct g/min? Is it clean?
You had previous tank crashes..? Same Dino’s? Why did lifestock die and what were phosphate, nitrate and do you run carbon if there was belief in toxins?
My personal belief is that Dino’s thrive in low nitrate/ phosphate systems. I keep both measurable and dose each if it closes in on 0.
I understand that other members have opposing thoughts. Vibrant has been used, peroxide has been used. I never had lasting success with tank black out.

Apparently it's not. I got a 3watt 100 gallon for my 55 gallon. I was looking at water volume not voltage size I did a blackout I think 3 months ago and they stayed away until now. Nitrates were around 30 and po4 .03 when the tank crashed. All livestock and acros died from die off and release of toxins, I wasn't running carbon at the time. I was dumb and ordered a new filter to bring down nutrients because I thought it was high phosphate at the time. Yes both frag tank and main tank crashed, same dinos. I even got sick from handling algae.

I crashed my tank with dinos after chasing phosphate numbers down and algae down, too. Learned in the recovery that algae growing is my friend. Even cyanobacter beats Dino’s. Take it slow. Make a plan. Rebuilt to where you were over 1 year or so. And QT, QT, QT.

Thank you for advice
