Wife put copper fish net in DT

Ok guys,

My wife thought she was helping and put my QT net in my DT. A few hours early i had that net in my QT which has < 1 ppm Copper Power in it. My tank is only 25 gal. Any chance ill have issues now? Im a bit freaked out right now as i know that net was definitely wet. I just threw some carbon in the tank. Should i be concerned?

Sorry to hear this.

How wet was the net, it will give an idea of how much qt water went in it. I would run a chemi pad or Cuprisorb when u can.

The other concern is cross contamination

You can always do a water change and test afterward. I wouldn't be too worried about it though. I do not make it a point to add LFS water to my tank at home but sometimes I spill it in there by accident. The LFS water has copper in it and I have never had a problem.

I assume you have inverts and that’s why you’re concerned? I’d just do a water change and test. Shouldn’t be an issue. What I’d be more concerned about is possible cross contamination. Let’s hope that’s not an issue.

Im in the process of catching my fish to run fallow. Ive got a bad case of Ich. I have one left to catch. Wife thought it would be a good idea to put net in the water so the fish got used to it i guess. Early that day i was poking around in the QT with that net, took it out and set it on a towel. It sat for an hour or maybe 2? Either way im sure it still had some water on it as they take awhile to dry. My DT has a ton of snails and about 15 frags ranging from LPS to SPS. I did a 5 gal water change yesterday... pretty upset with myself that i didnt explain the “rules” to my wife...

Don’t stress to hard. It will shouldn’t have a noticeable impact honestly. Have you noticed any changes to the inhabitants?

Every ICP test I’ve seen shows some trace amounts of copper, usually down in the second decimal place. The amount transferred from a mostly dry net into a full tank will be in the hundredths of a ppm. Since the tank is already infected, cross contamination isn’t a consideration.

There’s no problem here that I can see.

Thanks guys. My last ATI ICP test copper was undetectable. Coral look a tad stressed but i ticked everything off yesterday hunting fish. Ill relax and see how this one plays out. Im due to test copper with my hanna tomorrow on the QT so ill do the DT as well for the heck of it...
