Good morning.

I've been using old AI Sols. Lights daisy chain to controller via a physical wire. Program controller. Pretty much never touch it again.
I'll be getting some acros in the next month or so and need to upgrade a bit before hand.

I don't understand wifi lights though. The particular brand I'm interested in is SB reeflight, but the documentation available is pretty horrible.
Rather than having my expectations shattered, I figured I'd swallow my pride and just ask.

Generally speaking, do wifi controlled lights need a wifi signal to function, or just to set them up and adjust them?

An analogy. I got one of the kamoer bluetooth dosers. I connect to it via bluetooth, program it, and that's it. If I drop my phone in the toilet, the doser keeps on working.
That's what I'm looking for. I don't mind the bells and whistles (because I value the ramping), but I want my tank to run on water and electricity, not water, electricity, and internet.

So, do they continue to work, as programmed, when the internet or wifi is down and/or spotty?

Yes they work no matter the internet status. Same idea as your doser but you can remotely lower to turn off your lights. Like if you are at work and want to adjust or turn them down.

Yeah I think the Apex controls so much more that can go wrong. I personally haven't had any trouble at all with my wifi lights. And I have lost wifi like 100000 times
