Just purchased a Wild strawberry shortcake colony from Uniquecorals today and was wondering what people’s experiences are with the wild colonies from them. I’ve never bought a wild colony before due to the fear of it just dying right away. I have many aquacultured frags that are all doing great, but have read a lot that suggest the wild ones tend to just die right away or bring in pest. I even see people saying not to dip them and just put them straight In high up in the tank right away where you want it to be and then leave it alone from there. Apparently dipping them significantly decreases the chances of survival? Anyone with experience in wild acropora have any tips on how I should go about it. And anyone ever got a wild colony from uniquecorals? I’ve never had a pest come off a coral from them so maybe not dipping it isn’t a recipe for disaster? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks In advance!

If u don't dip and quarantine a wild colony then it's a big risk it's can carry egg which can hatch on a later date. As far as keeping the Coral it's the same as usual if you water is good it will stay alive wild colony need stronger light and flow than Aquaculture one

You must QT all corals regardless of aquacultured sold from wwc or wild colonies. It’s up to you if it’s worth taking the risk importing pests without QT. Just my 2 cents

My qt tank isn’t in the shape for me to be comfortable putting it in there. I feel like I’m securing its death if I try to qt it. I do have coralrx that I dip all my corals in. So I guess I’ll just give it a good dip then put it up high in the tank with good light and flow and leave it alone from there? Anyone Currently have wild acros that wanna give their 2 cents?

I would setup a tank to match what unique was keeping it at. And very slowly add light.

Ime wild colonies handle lower alk and light to what they were used to, far better than higher. Over a few weeks slowly acclimate to what you keep your display.

having bought colonies from la, they are not ones for change, usually I end up fragging and selling off. To recoup something dumb I’ve done to my tank. That .5dkh change won’t hurt an Ora it could cause part of a wild coral to bleach. My experience with wild colonies.

Thanks for the input! Definitely something im going to consider doing. Anyone else have any input on their experiences with wild colonies? Or any pics of wild colonies they got that colored up nicely?

OK, thanks for your feedback. I think I will just go with a trident. If I went w the kgh I would need to buy a other pm module so I don't lose my orp port. Originally I didn't like the cost of the reagents, but I guess if u buy them in the 6 month kits, it's not too bad. Seems like most people are happy with their tridents. I have heard the pH probe can be finicky w the kgh.
