Will my clownfish pair possibly take host to my leather toadstool? And if so would it negatively effect the coral? I know they host in a variety of different coral types but I've never heard of one bonding with a toadstool and mine has been staying pretty close to it. Any thoughts?

Yes, and depends. A pair of Percs that I had a few years back hosted both of my large Sarcophytons and no harm done for a couple years. They each slept in a different one at night. I decided to reduce them by one in my tank to make room for more SPS and once both were only hosting one it seemed to be bothered and closed up more than not. Here is a couple of old pics below of mine in theirs.

You can see a little reaction to the Toadstool in this bottom pic

clownfish, especially tank breed ones, will host just about anything. IME, I had clowns host my scoly, my return line, and the a frogspawn.

They will host whatever they feel like hosting, even if it isn't the best suited host in your tank. My clowns host a favia that is about 4" across now and it shaped like a "donut" because they are SO hard on it. They literally wore out the middle of the coral. This picture was taken at night top-down using a powerful flash which is why everything looks brown.

That was about 6 months ago and the favia has mostly healed up since they have taken more to being hosted by the rock next to the favia - but that should be a testament to how hard they can be on your corals. You don't want them hosting anything that isn't large, super healthy, and very hardy because they can easily kill it by rubbing against it for 12 hours at a time or more.

I have heard of them doing that before. My clowns won't host anything...I call them city clowns. They just hang out at the glass :/

Clownfish known to batter its host in some instances. They get too excited.

I have 3 snowflakes that host a large goniopora that was once round, it is no longer round!
