Eggcrate sizing is pretty standard. The holes are too big. (and it blocks a lot of light)

Actually my par readings don't change at all just slightly in the front of the tank. Also my light is very powerful, I can't run them 100% so if it does I'll turn it up... Thanks for the advice I'll have to find a mesh to attach to it.
The age ole saying, if the glove does not fit, you must acquit. oh wait wrong thread... If he fits, he escapes... I see plenty of escape routes.
Plus those are called light diffusers for a reason. It will limit your light to your corals.

I've already had a thread on this egg crate. The way people use to diffuse light with this is several layers. Also as I said my light very power ful so I can turn it up. My par gun says I'm fine so end of that....! I asked about the god dang fish. Not to be rude. I will ask my lfs.... I have more left. I'm going to cut more so there are way les space.
Get some 1/4" mesh and be done with it. No questions with that.

BTW- 1/2 inch holes will allow many smaller fish to still escape...including 6 lines, smaller clownfish, etc.
Before the days of Bulk Reef selling the mesh, I sold extra pieces to off set the large quantity I had to purchase. I still have some if anyone is interested feel free to pm me.

while I agree that mesh is best, I have the crate on my tank with 3 dart fish and two wrasses including a sixline. I haven't lost anything. I know it can happen, but I think If you have compatible fish and enough rock work they are less likely to jump. the only time I worry is when my covers are off for a wc, but that's a problem with any kind of cover.

Yeah guys thanks. I do want to say though I have had darts clowns damsels a bar goby and never had a fish jump. I know wrasses have the tendency to jump so I purchased this to prevent that. My lfs said that even though It might jump, they are not even close to suicidal like a fairy wrasse so, he said you'll have a risk until he grows up then you want have to worry. And my egg crate is like 1.5 cm cubes so not very open.... I'll take my chances
call me a woman scorn, but I've had 2 different wrasses jump and one clown jump. This was with a canopy that had eggcrate in the back opening, vertically.
I don't care what you do, but care about fish that we are committing to protect. It's just one of those things that I will speak up because I've personally had it happen and was very sad about it. Now, I have no wrasses and that makes me sad, but someday, I'll have a better cover.

You haven't lost one, because you have been lucky and they haven't jumped. I think nothing at all may be better than egg crate, as at least there is a chance they would land back in the tank. Get some mesh on there! [emoji3]

Guys guys your fighting in my forum. My lfs also said well in the long run YES MESH IS BETTER but a fish is only a fish and if you lose one you lose one... He also said that IF TGEY JUMP AND LAND ON THE CRATE THEY CAN GO BACK IN he said 6lines are only 18$ so if you lose one it's not a big deal now if you lose three buy some mesh. Guys I understand it is better I was curious if it was enough to start with. I needed a quick fix. My lfs is very helpful so thanks again all of you who recommended mesh to me I will purchase some later in this tanks future.
Your LFS is telling you fish are disposable. When they die, just go back for you to buy more. Would you think that was OK if we were taking about dogs? We all need to be responsible fish owners. If you have fish that can jump, you need to take every precaution so they can't. A fish is not a fish to me. And if you feel that way, you may be in the wrong hobby.
