Hey so I currently have two clownfish in my 20 gal nuvo 20. I’m considering adding a fire fish and a chromis. Wondering if adding more fish will decrease the chance of the two clowns pairing? Thank you !

@Dylan7huskies I am still fairly new to the hobby (about a year or so into it) but that being said I have had clowns with Chromis, damsels, and cardinals (you know "beginner fish") in Nuvo 20 and 10's and never had any issues. In fact, the pairing would happen within a week (i would see them flicking and dancing with each other). Now if you are talking spawning, Yes I have no clue. I hope this helps!

By dancing you mean like going up and down with each other? Mine have been doing that but the smaller clown has a nipped fin. I’m assuming this was establishing dominance and the larger clown has been less aggressive but still goes after the smaller one

@Dylan7huskies swimming up and down may just be them liking a spot in the tank, I should rephrase and say "twitching". Go on youtube and search for clownfish twitch and look at the inappropriate reefer video (about 7 minutes). He goes into a little more depth which may be helpful to you. Fin nipping is pretty normal and you are right about the dominance thing but just keep an eye out that it doesn't kill the other (happened to a pair of my wyoming whites )

I’d send a video but I can’t ever get them to upload. Yeah they will follow each other and the larger one has been letting up. Wondering if they do pair, how long it would be before they mated

@Dylan7huskies If one has been letting up to the other they are most likely in the process. I cannot and no one else really can tell if or when they will actually mate. When you say "mate" what do you mean exactly mean?

Reproducing. My question is adding more fish will have an affect?
