I dont care about leeching it out later as i wont have snails or inverts, is a 125 and daily water changes would be a problem, my nitrates went up because of sand nitrate factory when i removed it

It’s the answer to your title. Cooper will kill chaeto as well! You are better off doing a complete reset/100% water change and cleaning of the quarantine tank if you don’t need/want cooper in the tank. Cooper may help but it won’t get rid of it. There’s also cooper absorption products you can buy. Chaeto is a known nitrate reducer as is Live phyto. Copper as stated as well as fluconasal, nopox and vibrant will take chaeto down and cause decay.
 
FWIW, macroalgae do take up a small amount of copper in normal situations. I do not know how much copper it takes to kill macroalgae, or whether the uptake in high copper situations is increased to the point where it is a problem.
