I was given a huge peice of gsp from a friend, I didn't dip it because I was worried about some of the dip being absorbed into the rock and ending up in my tank. This morning I noticed a large bristleworm in the mat. I've never had a bristleworm in my tank and I would like to keep it that way. Can I dip this large peice as long as I rinse it very well? I tried sucking him out with a turkey baster and with tweezers but he's too fast.

I have 2 bristle worms in my tank,as long as they don't reproduce Your ok, Some people like them some don't, I always dip my coral and the rock wont absorb in 10 minute dip..You will be ok

btw what are you using to dip with sorry I see Coral RX is what i use..

DO IT!!!

Coral Rx will definitely kill a bristleworm. I dip everything before placing in my system. I usually dip for about 10 minutes and then rinse good in a bucket with tank water.

my tanks have lived in peaceful harmony with bristleworms for MANY years. they are good detritivores. they also are part of the ecosystem and cleanup crew of a healthy reef IMO. I even put a baby one in my 5 gallon nano the other day. I have NEVER seen them harm coral or fish.

that siad, coral rx pro should knock them off a frag.

Bet hes not this big..lol this is only 2 inches of the 10 inch worm

I wouldn't mind him if he wasn'tc burrowing in this gsp. It's about 8 square inches of gsp and used to be beautiful in my friends 300 gallon. But he put it in his 120 and for the past month or so the polyps haven't been extending like they used to. Used to be 2 to 3 inches now half an inch and lots of bald places

Some people swear by these things, but I got some corals on Saturday, and my wife flushed every last one of them. I have to admit not a fan of any worm that can harm my fish

Maybe ill give it a couple of days to see if the gsp perks back up. As soon as he touches any of my chalice or SPS he's a gonner tho

I just think they're creepy looking.

Bristleworms do not harm fish or corals. People assume that because they see them next to dead flesh or part of the coral that is dying. That is only because they will go after the dead flesh. Bristleworms, spaghetti worms, and a ton of other "bugs" are a very necessary part of the overall health of an aquarium.

Bristle worms will harm coral and will go after live fish if they can. I have seen it. I had 1 in my tank and now I am infested. One of my zoas stayed closed, when I took him out there was a huge bristle worm burrowed in him. I dipped and got him out and now he's open and beautiful again. I seen a bristle worm latched onto my molly, he literally could not get away from him. That is when I started trying to eradicate them. Crabs and other clean up crew will do what they do.

I dipped a zoa colony yesterday with Revive, which is close to Coral RX(same stuff?, who knows) and after dipping it for 10 mins nothing happened. I dipped again for another 5 and while using a turkey baster i finally stunned a bristle worm and it showed itself. I pulled it out with tweezers and then it died. My point is they are tough worms and if burried inside rock/coral they wont die easily

I did the fresh water dip and they come out immediately lol

I also use Revive and I’ve killed bristle worms with it. I also have a 6 line Wrasse. I did see a bristle worm the other day but wasn’t quick enough to catch it. Hoping the Wrasse earns his keep. :)

That sounds like the worm you had may have been a bobbit worm rather than a bristleworm if it latched onto a fish like that.

I looked up bobbit worms .. .those things are hideous. lol No, it's definitely a bristle worm. My LFS said arrow crabs are GREAT at getting rid of them so I"m gonna get a couple of those guys.

Coral Rx did not help me in my case to kill bristleworms. I dipped for 30 min and agitated the water the whole time. They still lived on...
