Will CUC Eat Macroalgael

Would like to add a little macroalgae with my cuc. I am thinking the cuc may eat the macroalgae. What would be the best and hardiest macro algae for 20 gallon reef tank. I read that a little phosphate is good for corals. Will the macroalgae consume to much phaphate? Thanks all

Calcareous macros can be ignored by a lot of CUC, but it really depends on which species makes up your crew.

ReefCleaners and Rusalty offer a few varieties.

Re: nutrients, start with small cuttings and watch your tank and parameters. If things drop too precipitously, feed more or cut back some of the lighting and or macro. It’s much like tuning a skimmer or any reactor. You’ll get a grasp of what baseline looks like over time and act on deviations.

My CUC ate my halimeda! Calcareous structures won't necessarily save macro from hungry inverts. My tuxedo urchin also went after it specifically to wear as a "hat". It ultimately succumbed after being transported all over the tank and into a dark spot where I couldn't retrieve it easily.

I'd definitely go with halymenia for a first macro. Urchins will devour it, but it usually outgrows problem grazing. It's also one of the prettier species that commonly available.
