Will CUC help this gunk?

So I've got this gunk on my return pump intake grate. I clean this crud off about every two weeks. I'm wondering if I were to drop a turbo snail or two into this part of my AIO return chamber if they could keep the grate cleaner.

You could but better processes, possibly 2 minutes,

go rinse under a tap, do this every day or two and you will be amazed at difference in your aquarium

Turbos would probably starve in there, especially two of them.

I never run grates on my return pumps for this reason. Looks like detritus. What is filtration like in the sump before the return pump?.

i agree, but also believe it to be a lot of detritus too. both together would hinder flow a lot especially with the strainer

Yep I'd remove the grates as per above. This is the last section of sump so your filtration before this should take care of anything big that could clog up the return pump
