Will dead snails cause ammonia spike

I got snails and didn’t count them and my ammonia got to 0.8 couldn’t figure out why could 4 dead snails cause ammonia spike they could have been in there for almost 2 weeks tops and do diatoms mean my tank has cycled I have brown spots of algae all over my tank

Yes. If you see one , pick it up and take a sniff. You will know if its dead. Death smells really bad.

Yes the ones I picked up smelt terrible! I didn’t know how bad they smelt
