Lost one head of this hammer yesterday for an unknown reason. I took it out last night and dipped it in Revive (Two Little Fishes).

Today, it looks a lot better and extended.

Will it grow back into the old skeleton?

I have had a hammer with a skeleton that looked just like that that recovered nicely.

No. It only grows back if that head is not completely dead; and it will not re-incorporate the exposed skeleton - it will grow new skeleton on top of it.

That looks like a wall hammer…. Once those start to recede there’s almost no chance of saving it.

This^ the euphyllia excrete the skeleton from the underneath. They will not grow over or recover the skeleton. Possibly grow a "new" skeleton if it can recover. Sadly doesn't work out so often..

This morning I took it out. Most of it had let loose off the skeleton.

I just wish I knew why the sudden change.
Wall hammers are notorious for randomly receding and dying
That’s why most people only have the branching varieties. They are MUCH more hardy

Dead is dead. If it grows back, it was not dead. Once a branching hammer head dies, it won't get repopulated.

Didn't know that. Learn something new every day!
Leave the old skeleton in the tank. New heads will regrow from the old skeleton. I had a salinity issue which caused some heads to bailout. Been slighly lazy i cudnt be bothered to frag the old bits off. Glad i left it because now i have loads off new heads starting to pop up on them.
