Sorry if this has been asked before but a search didn't turn anything up. I recently had to move my nano tanks from my office to my house and am having a bad outbreak of green hair algae all over my red pom pom macro algae. Would dosing 3% hydrogen peroxide eliminate the hair algae and leave my macros alive? Is there a better alternative?

Thanks for the help everyone :)

H202 will not discriminate between GHA & Red Macro. You must weed your garden and selectively remove undesirables..

I have used toothbrush dipped in peroxide to spot treat effected areas.. Renew peroxide on toothbrush every 10 seconds.

As a generalization about GHA, it will contribute excess DOC compared to other macros. Use granulated activated carbon to remove this DOC from the water column.

Awesome. Kept reading conflicting information about H2O2 dosing. Will try and brush it off the macros with a tooth brush. Then use a filter sock to catch the algae then.

That is somewhat labor intensive. Do you have sufficient desirables that is not infested with GHA. If so, I would prune and remove complete infestation and encourage regrowth from what you salvage. This stuff grows fast.

As @Subsea mentioned hand pruning is going to be a pain, but the most accurate so that you don't harm the algae you are wishing to keep. I like the trick with the toothbrush! :)
