Will I be able to keep a mandarin dragonet under these conditions?

I’ll have to see if I can do that. My dad custom made my tank for me so idk if there are 2 openings for 2 different filters.

You should be able to have two hob filters on the tank.
Neither will be centered. One pushed to left side the other pushed toward the right side.

I see what you are saying but i don’t know if my tank will allow me to do that. It has built on top

I can’t figure out how to post the link, sorry. If you go on the TRUVU website it’s just the 40 gallon freshwater tank with some modifications.

I repurposed an old Aquaclear 110 hob filter to use as a hob refugium.
I ordered a light off ebay that MANY in the nano community have recommended.

Yeah I’ll definitely go with a hob fuge as long as I have space to put it in my tank. I might even do both a fuge and the brine feeder tool. He would be fatter and happier that way.

Hello, I am 14 and setting up my first reef tank. I am also new to this forum so please excuse any mistakes I might make. As any newbie does, I have fallen in love with the green mandarin dragonet. The tank is exactly 37.4 gallons and is going to be a soft/lps mixed reef. It will be running with a hob filter and 2 jabeo wavemakers. Unfortunately I cannot set up a sump, which means no refugium. I don’t know if it would be worth it to set up a pod breeding tank or just keep buying bottles of pods. I could also try to find one that is eating prepared food. Let me know your thoughts on the matter and what I should do to keep the pods.
This is my stock list as of the time being.

Fish:

• Ocellaris Clownfish (2x)
• McCosker’s Flasher Wrasse
• Green Mandarin Dragonet
• Firefish (2x)
• Molly Miller Blenny
• Yellow Watchman Goby

Inverts:

• Tiger Pistol Shrimp
• Skunk Cleaner Shrimp
• Rock Flower Anemone (?x)
• Banded Trochus Snail (?x)
• Blue Legged Hermitcrab (?x)
• Nassarius Snail (?x)
• Sand Sifting Starfish
• Tuxedo Urchin

Mandarins consume bottles of pods and will get expensive buying at the store. However, you can grow pods at home.

I grow isochrysis Galbana golden brown phytoplankton as food for the Copepods. I bought one bottle of Reef Nutrition Tigriopus Californicus Copepods last summer and they multiply every week for me. They are in one gallon glass jars with no air. Do a 1/2 gallon water change every 1-2 months.

Do you grow pods or just food for the pods? That looks like a great idea, might have to look into it more.

I grow both phytoplankton and Copepods for my reef tanks. The Reef Nutrition Tiggerpods multiply very well on golden brown algae (isochrysis galbana).

If you can’t have a HOB filter and Fuge, go with the fuge 1000%. A filter is for nutrient export...using a fuge will be more efficient than just the filter itself. Also, welcome to r2r!
