Will Lace Rock Affect Water Parameters ??

Not sure if this should be in the DIY section, or Chemistry section so please move if necessary..
I'm building the faux background for a reef tank (egg crate, pond foam, epoxy, sand, etc.) and was told by 2 out of 4 LFS owners that I asked that Lace Rock will dramatically affect the water parameters by leeching trace elements into the water.
I'm will be using Live Rock in the tank obviously, but was using a few small pieces of this Lace Rock zip tied to the egg crate as well to create small caves, shelves, and a realistic background. It's very porous, light, and easy to shear into flat pieces or strips.
I was told it would cause uncontrollable Hair Algae problems. Any experience or feedback on this thought??
If this is correct, what type(s) of rock do people use??

Lace rock is kind of a generic term. Components may vary drastically. If the LFS has experience with it leaching nutrients then it probably does. If you are looking for dead rock for a base look at Marco rock. BRS has some as well

don't know if this is the same kind of rock but I got 2 lg pieces of coral base rock to beef up my live rock I really liked it because it had a lot of holes after a few weeks I started to get diatoms & then a bunch of hair algae on the sides of the tank coraline never grew on it I took them out & slowly the diatoms went away (angel had already eaten all the hair algae) I should have known better because they really didn't look like any of the live rock I had ever seen I think they were either lace rock or texas holey rock. you could soak them in ro water for a few days & test for silicates & phos then you would know if they are gonna leach stuff into the tank or not
