I want to add a bunch of trochus snails to my tank but I'm concerned that my melanurus wrasse will eat them. Thoughts/experiences?

You should be safe. They will eat the smaller snails. But I think you will be fine. My Christmas wrasse eats the baby cerith snails in my tank but doesn't go for them if they are bigger than a cm long.

I have a melanarus in my frag and display tank and while I have saw shrimp mysteriously disappear and hermits , the trochus snails do well. :) . They also seem to leave nassarius snails alone and I like that the trochus have the ability to flip back over. I hope that helps.

yeah no problems with wrasse picking on my inverts as long as you feed him atleast once or twice a day

I have a 4" melanurus that doesn't eat snails or small shrimp. I have peppermint shrimp he doesn't bother anything. So just depends on ur fish I guess. I think I got lucky tho.

Well the wrasse may have eaten one snail so far, it was turned over for just a second as I was adding to the tank. The wrasse is hovering all around it. Hopefully it gets bored soon.

I checked in the snail and I could still see the black "cap" thing in there so It might be alive still.

Oh sorry I forgot to add I usually add the snails at night when the wrasse is sleeping because anything I put in the tank, he inspects to see if it is edible.

Good point! Mine always does that, guess I should have waited.

I had one in my reef tank for several months before I moved him to my FOLWR. Never bothered anything including my feather duster.
