Will Moving Part of This Coral Kill It?

Was informed that my cheapo Coralife Clip On lights world not grow SPS coral. This and the other monti corals are growing in all directions. I am thinking of breaking the main body off and placing it on the side glass. How would this effect the part of the coral that remains on the rock? Can I grow coral on the side glass of the aquarium? Thanks all

The part on the rock will continue growing as it has .
the part on the glass …. Something to think about : is there as much light and flow in that location ?

most systems has minimal light at the edges as it’s more focused in the centre .
But I have seen many setups on here with sps growing on the walls .

you haven't broken a piece off before? It grows like a weed, you will be breaking pieces of regularly, it just keeps on growing.

My red monti is growing up the back glass. I didn't position it that way or intend for it to happen. It grew from a rock, hit the glass, and starting growing up the glass.

As @LordofCinder stated, you will be fragging it weekly once it takes off. I had to tear down my last tank due to an out of control monti. I consider it an invasive coral now lol.

Some Montipora can grow well in as low as 50 PAR.

As others have said, the encrusting/plating Montiporas will take over the tank, but if that's your goal it can look pretty awesome.
