Will my Bali green slimer survive ?

What do you think ? I started my first ever saltwater tank 2 months ago. Before investing in a rodi unit, I wanted to test with tap water, since it had low/medium TDS (about 80 ppm).

So I set up the tank with tap water, dechlorinator and Red sea coral pro salt mix. I added 2 clown fish after cycling, and 1 Bali green slimer 2-3 weeks later.

Fast forward a few weeks later, the Bali green slimer is not happy. I tried a different spot with less current, less light, more current etc. By then I was convinced it was not happy with my tap water.

So I bought a rodi unit and first did a 35% WC with rodi water (0 ppm TDS). The green slimer was still not happy. So I decided to go all the way and do a 100% WC. I slowly acclimated the fish and green slimer with the new 100% rodi water before putting the back in the tank. Since I ran out of Red sea coral pro salt mix the day before, I used my new Red sea blue bucket salt mix to make this new water. I figured it would be better for the slimer, and less expensive for me. I’ll stick with this for now.

So here’s a picture of the Bali green slimer when I first got it 3-4 weeks ago, and today after spending the night in the new rodi water.

What’s your verdict doctor, will it survive ?

A few days after I got it, in tap water.

Today, about 15 hours after the change to rodi water.

It probably will survive. Never give up on a dead coral. =)

Not so fast with removing dead corals

its a very new tank and parameters are swinging too much, just try to keep all parameters stable, 10% water changes once a week, it will slowly lower the alkalinity as the blue bucket has lower alk than the coral pro. make sure to use ato to keep salinity stable or top off a couple times a day with rodi water. Its a tough sps but still a hard coral for new tanks as the tank needs time to become biologically stable even though the tank has cycled. it isnt a goner just yet though

100% change is already done. I will aim for 10% weekly WC.

There is very little evaporation from this tank since the lid is covering the top completely. By the time I would need to add rodi water, it’s time for a WC...

Getting an Acropora to recover is an uphill battle, but slimer is hardy and I've turned around worse in my tank. People think this is an easy coral, and it can be, but it needs a lot of light and good flow. I'd move it to your highest par, even if most Acropora start better under lower light.

Like stated above slimer is a hardy stick but you have too many swings happening at the moment, try and get everything stable and should be okay. If it doesn’t pull threw I would let the tank establish more then try again.

yep and hit it with a lot of flow, it can handle a lot, just dont put it right in front of a powerhead (honestly it would prob be fine but i havent hit mine with that much direct flow)
