i switch from 2 250 watt mh to an 8 bulb t5 fixure 6 atinic and 2 12,000k bulbsrunning for 8 hoursnow i am fight green and red algea nothing ealse has change just lights .will new lighting give me this?:ooh:

When I had this problem I turned my lights off for 2 days aka 48 hours no light at all, and it went away. I would eventually change the combo because if the corals are used to all that light having only two day time lights won't suffice!

Yes.......your new bulbs are penetrating much deeper through the water , try removing the algea by hand and either cut lighting down then slowly raise the hours or raise the new fixture and slowly over time bring it down closer to the water .

never had this until the lights so your say the t5 are bright then 2 250 mh lights i found that hard to belive?

I find t5's produce more algae... I would suggest sticking with the halides

I had algae problems when running florescents, but within 24 hrs of going to good halides the problem dissappeared

ya but the heat is killing me and my wife is helling about the power bill again

Are you sure its the MHs causing a rise in your power bill? When I set my tank up and my wife saw the lights (3 MHs) she said the power bill is going to kill us, so we watched to see what the power went up to. We figure it is only costing us $3.50 more a month.

yes here in new york they kill people on the poewer bill went up about 150 bucks with the lights and the chiller
