I'm on day 60 something of fallow period on DT, and am starting to prepare for a CP treatment to knock out anything the hypo salinity / H2O2 treatment likely missed.

I want to maintain some biological filtration, because the QT is stocked heavily enough that dosing prime to control ammonia is riskier than I would like. There is a HOB filter that tends to get clogged / underperform with the nearby air stone. Rocks and sand must come out to ensure the best chances for CP treatment to be successful.

I've been adding Chaeto from the DT to keep enough pods in the QT for the mandarin dragonet to get by.

If I remove the LR, sand, and HOB filter, will Chaeto provide enough surface area for nitrifying bacteria to keep ammonia in check? Can I count on enough nitrifying bacteria staying on the glass, powerhead, air stone, etc. To keep ammonia in check?

Thanks!

I think the chaeto itself would do more ammonia uptake than any nitrifiers that might be attached to it.
But I don't know if it'll be enough, I'd monitor ammonia and see.
