Will the Flames burn my tank?

I looked at 5 vendors, only live aquaria recomended a 70. The other 4 all said minimum was 30.

LiveAquaria is the legitimate go to source for accurate information for most of us when it comes to things like tank size.

I wouldn't put a dwarf in a 30g... pygmy, yea. But a 5-6" when full grown dwarf angel in a 30g tank is asking for problems. Two in a 75 is also asking for problems imo.

I hope you QT that flame first.Your going to have a stressed tank.Opening yourself up to a tank wipeout.

Agreed, they are a major vendor. But multple others disagree. Including the very specific flame angel info sheet i posted. Not to mention that recomended tank size is an opinion to begin with. There is no science behind it. Its an educated guess. Ive broken lots of accepted theories over this last decade with more success than failure. And probably half the info i recieved in that time was flat out wrong.
So although they are a great info source, i take it as educated opinion. Not fact.
And now i will be back in a week crying over the damage and hating myself for not listening. Lol

Max size for a flame is 4" . This new one is full grown.

Well i released him about 2 hours ago. There is a lil chasingbut nothing too serious. Im still very hopefull. dory breaks up the first dance. Midway through the 2nd vid is a short blast of aggression. Ive seen much worse. Ill keep reporting i was going to delete the sound but my wife insisted i dont. She loves how "dorky" i am. Lol

I thought you can sex flame angels by the shape of the fins and the number of bars - or at least it was easier to ID male / female.

How long did it take to reach that size?

It is possible these are both males. I cant be sure. What i can say is so far so good. lil spirts of aggression but no worse than a normal spat. Semi aggressive fish have disputes regularly. Neither fish is damaged. I have not seen any "bites". Just occasional chasing. The resident small one is very curious. Keeps following. Sometimes met with dances, sometimes ignoring, and sometimes getting chased away. Night is falling in my reef and there seems an uptick in the chasing. Im hoping it is a sleeping spot thing. Still no bites. Just less dancing. Lol and i just dumped in some live baby brine and tigger pods for my lil manderin. He hunts best at dusk. So could be food aggression. Ill update tomorrow

She is about 5". She was given to me when someones tank leaked. Couldnt afford a new one and i had the largest available display. Ive had her for about a year now. Healthy and happy. She loves the really strong current behind my rocks.

Prior to seeing the picture I posted earlier (saw it just last week! ) the general advice I remember reading for the past 5 years is they are like banggai cardinals, too hard to tell apart.
That picture has me hoping for better results if I eventually get crazy enough to try a second flame angel in my own 75 gallon tank. [emoji17]

So far I'm getting away with copperband 2" (5 months), yellow tang 1.75" (2 weeks, but wants to be a jerk), blue hippo tang 7/8" (2 weeks, but fattening up nicely), flame angel 2.5", 2 ocellaris clownfish, 2 banggai cardinals, tiny springeri damsel, 1.5" six line( would ditch that in a heart beat for a flasher / fairy combination) and flame hawkfish 2.25" and 4 neon cleaner gobies.

Longnose hawkfish past away after 5 years. It got along with the flame hawkfish (they mostly avoided each other, Longnose was slightly dominant).

Wanting to wait for a pair of Longnose hawkfish to try again. Getting the flame hawkfish and longnose hawkfish to get along is hit or miss.
Holding out for a pair before even considering trying it.
Better half likes the Longnose best.

Had the original long nose hawkfish paired up years ago, but lost the mate in a tank crash.
The flame hawkfish was added a year later.

Sounds like a cool bunch. i need a female manderin and my tank is complete! Im am very happy with my fish. Even if the new angel doesnt work out. It was a tank breakdown whim. Be cool if it works though.
