Hi all. Upgrading next year from a 8g nano to a Redsea 75L (the addiction has got the better of me!) :D

I’ve beautiful acropora and montiporas, etc that have been growing like crazy over the last few months. My 8g nano has been running now for a good 5 years.

So, my question being........
Is moving these into the Redsea nano next year going to annoy these in any way?- will they die?

I will be using.......
New rock in the new tank during cycling.
New sand.
Dr Tim’s One and Only nitrifying bacteria
Cycle for a month or so

Would it be a good idea to put a filter sponge and some bioballs from my current nano into the Red Sea to kick start bacteria multiplying?

Are there going to be enough beneficial bacteria etc in the new tank to sustain my SPS corals?

Hope someone can help answer these.
Thanks,
Emma xx

make sure the tank is cycled 100% before you put in any coral... i would transfer all the live rock you have currently to the new tank and measure all parameters of your current system and attempt to match the new tank to them 100% as well, as long as everything stays the same or changes slightly things will be fine, but new tanks go through some crazy times and established corals will not do well in these changes.

the reason I was planning on getting new rock to start afresh in the new tank was due to an infestation of aptasia. Currently, my 8g is too small for a few aptasia eating shrimps. And it’s gone beyond using aptasia-X

I was thinking though of cycling the new tank as normal and using the same rock as I have now.
However, in the new tank I’d be getting a few aptasia eating shrimps to attempt to erradicate this dreaded aptasia!

Would you guys use the same rock in the new tank despite aptasia issue? xx

not an SPS guy here but this is what I would do...
get the new tank going ( I would think long and hard about going bigger so you dont have to upgrade again in a few years ) a 75L not that big if looking at RS maybe the 250-350 425??

get the tank up and running do the 4 month BRS/WWC cycles enjoy your * gallon while that doing it's thing

after long cycle and tank ugliness is done take a hardy starter coral dip it and and remove any frag plug if it has any. add to new tank and give it a week or so if it does well slowly start to add the others maybe a few a day.

tank upgrade can be done but things can go wrong to I lost 1K+ in coral last year moving tanks around. it was my fault even tho I like to blame the cat....lol

good luck!
