Hey guys and girls, my name is Niels and i was born in Belguim, raised in the Netherlands and now live in Germany with my wife and 3 kids.
I’ve been having the bug bite me for about 4 years now, so i consider myself a newbie. Started with a 13 Gallon tank wich did not last of course and at the time i am still running a 90 gal aqua medic percula, wich has a part of the display compartmented off as a sump, not practical at all and i am afraid it is getting too old on the seams, wich works on the wife really well when it comes to starting a new tank.

So today i found this 76 gallon tank, wich will replace the 90 gallon. The actual display is much bigger tho, because of the compartmented display of the old 90.

This will have an additional 60 gallon of sump

So for you gus to get the general idea:

The tanks measurements are: 47 inches long
16 inches wide
20 inches high
( i am very confused in imperial measurements)

It will be there where it stands, as a room divider. It will be on a stand like this

And it being 31,5 inches high

I have started on my equipment list but basically i am trying too keep it simple. But i am very open to suggestions and have a load of questions.

The first thing i did was create some documents to keep track of the project since i am quite chaotic as an artist. I want to use this project to become more of an organised artist to be honest!

So I’ll start with the most important question. What are these braces for? Just to break the waterline? And then, should i cross brace it in the middle on the long side?

When it comes to the sump system i want to keep it fairly low tech. Filter sock, skimmer, refugium.
For dosing I’ll be using balling light.

I have seen some others online discussing bracing with that style of a glass strip across the long sides below the water surface as yours are.. Another piece of glass was siliconed resting on top of and connecting the braces you already have. I've never had a rimless tank but I guess the theory is that the glass connecting the long sides isn't pulling just in the middle but spread more across the length of where your existing braces are.

Yes, i have seen the cross braces laying on top as well. I am just not sure if an 8mm strength and no “real” brace over 120 cm is as secure as i want it to be.

What do you guys think of this for a sump? It’s under a 100 bucks and would fit my stand, and when it comes to sump, i want to use the space i have.

This is my tank now, it has seen better times, but it JUST came from worse. After a couple of weeks in the hospital and no one to blame for it otherwise, it was a disaster, all sps gone. But i am very happy with it now and i will be ready to reintroduce sps soon, even tho i might not just yet, because of the will to push the new project.
