I got this pump for free and I was wondering if there would be any issues using it as a return pump

How can I tell? I think it was used for a boat. Boats should be able to handle salt water right?
Look up the model number - that will tell you for sure. Being on a boat you really have no idea what it was necessarily used for.

Too much metal - I see a red flag
Look at similar: Reef-flow, pan america or Iwaki which are reef approved

It’s typically best to avoid any pumps that are metal like that unless you’ve gotten it from a manufacturer that classifies it as reef safe. Salt is a major catalyst for rust. I’ve seen steel pipe get destroyed and the water that comes through will have an orange tint to it. I would pass if I were you.

Those dayton jet pump motors are usually on industrial applications. I've seen them in hydraulic applications and in small glycol chiller systems. The adapter on the end of the shaft is kinda funky since I see threads on the center. You would need to swap that adapter first to something that's sealed and saltwater safe. By the time you get the right setup, you can probably find a big boy return pump that's ready and without the hassle.

Looking at that FLA rating, with no load that's gonna pull a few amps just to spin.
