Hi Everyone,
I purchased a frag with 2 Forest Fire Mushroom on it today and tried to spilt the rock in half (should have left well enough alone, ugh) and accidentally tore one of the mushrooms, will it heal? Please see the picture below..

Thanks Gus

Mushrooms are hearty and it should be ok. But yes watch for brown stuff!

To frag a mush you actually just cut it in half. Some just cut chunks off.

I just got an order of a mush that was clearly cut in half after I ordered and it will be fine also. Just watch who you buy from ;)

All that is true, but I have very recently actually killed some of them during removal. I was really surprised that they didn't survive given how bulletproof they typically are.

Thank you for your replys.. I'm just hoping the way it torn that it heals.. it does look a little better in the tank

I can't tell how badly it's torn from the picture. If the fringes are torn but the mouth and foot are intact, it will probably make it.

Is it actually possible to kill a mushroom?

I had taken a tank down that had some (OK, a million) blueberry mushrooms. Transferred all of the corals properly, but there were a few pieces of leftover rock that I threw into a bucket dry and put in my vehicle. Kind of forgot about it, but when the vehicle started to smell like the bad part of the ocean after a couple of days, I remembered all that rock back there.

Digging through it, I found a couple of rocks that had a few mushrooms on them. By then, they just looked like half-dried snot on the rocks. Put the rock into a system, and the next day, the mushrooms were wide open like nothing had happened.

I’ve never been able to kill one. They are resilient little guys.

I've actually killed them....at least the ones I've detached. If they leave any little specks of flesh, those will regenerate into new shrooms.

I just acquired a rock of forest fire recently and fragged them up. They are very hardy and will survive just about anything lol. I cut some through the mouth and others around the skirt. All frags are doing fine. Just make sure not to blast them with too much light and flow and they should recover well.

Just adding real quick. I had a bounce mushroom that went from 4 inches to less than a quarter of an inch it was pretty much dead with brown jelly covering it and it stunk to high heaven. I just rinsed it in iodine dip tossed it in a low flow zone and it has recovered greatly!

Lugols? I’ve been looking into an iodine dip for my mushrooms/softies

Thank you.. they are a great looking mushroom, can't wait to see them when they are larger.. I'll make sure they are in a low flow area and as for lighting I just put a new AI Prime HD on the tank yesterday and it's in acclimation mode so the light won't be full strength until about 6 weeks so I hope that will help it heal..

Thanks Everyone!!

Update.. looks like it's becoming two mushrooms now.. two small pieces on left..
