so my blue hippo tang is growing too big for my reef tank and i plan to move it to my fish only tank. but before moving, i plan to QT it for 2 weeks by using CP. basically i';ll set up a tub with 1 gallon water which i will change out completely every 24 hours with fresh saltwater. question is will there still b too much ammonia spike for it to work ? any advice or help will b greatly appreciated. TQ

1 gal is small for a hippo..could you purchase a small tank or a tote??

IMO you are going to kill that fish. Hippo's hate that.
As for ammonia, as long as you change the water every day or twice a day, I don't think ammonia will be a problem.

How big is this quarantine tank and what will be in it? It's not one gallon is it?

Well the smaller the amount of water the more quickly it will build up...

u mean i shouldn't b using cp on hippo? i guess i'll just have to give it away. know for a fact that my reef tank has ich but been controlling it very well. 0 deaths in a year. but wouldnt wanna affect my fish only tank, which has many pricey fishes and has been treated with cp prior.

I meant hippo tangs hate quarantine and in a small bare tank, they really hate it and all fish hate copper as it is a poison and a hippo tang is a fairly delicate fish anyway.
If you feel the need to quarantine that fish (I wouldn't) I would use at least a 20 gallon tank decorated with something like clay bricks, not PVC elbows. At least the fish would have a chance. or else, give it away.
Just my opinion of course but I have been keeping them almost constantly for over 40 years.

no issues with them nipping ur corals in 40 years? ive kept 2 in my 5 years in the hobby. both came in with bad ich and survived then went on to live for years. but recently i found them nipping on my soft corals so i guess they have to go. just found out that they dun do well with CP too.

I have never found that to be the case.

since ive got ur attention. might as well ask u a question on worms. i know u recommend live blackworms, but i cant find any in malaysia. do u think live mealworms works the same or similar?

I would not use meals or superworms. Maybe you can find a white worm culture?

Dont use chloroquine phosphate on a hippo tang, if thats what you were planning

No, mealworms are not worms, they are beetle larvae. The fish probably won't eat them and they don't have the right nutrition for a salt water fish. If you can find earthworms, they would work but you may have to chop them up to make them small enough for the fish to eat them.
But any real worm should work.

Found some grindal worms. That works too?
