Will this skimmer mod work?

It's on a Vertex Omega 130 which I hear are finicky and need to be in 7 and 1/2 to 8 in of water. I was thinking the seven and a half to 8in would be for the skimmer body but now I'm wondering if they meant that for the pump in the impeller. What do you think?

It should work. The seaclone hang on back skimmer does something similar, uses a tube to transfer from inside the tank, over the rim to the skimmer body. Only way to find out is to try it out

Thank you Mr. McJones!. I'm getting pretty eager to get water in the system, butstill have some plumbing to do and things to check, so, I'll have to wait a few more weeks (sigh)
