Hi all!

Rookie question.
I have never had a nem, my (150g deep) tank will be hitting the year mark next month. All has been stable except I have a major vermetid infestation. I am not going to nuke my tank but I am trying to manage it. It's not fun in a deep tank.

I am just starting to think about getting a nem, I still have a lot of research to do. My clowns are still very small and we actually have 2 J hooks holding a large PVC pipe towards the top of the tank that they are living in. My lyretail hawkfish is a jerk and doesn't go near them now. Ideally I still want them to get bit bigger before I take that pipe out and want the nem in place before too. I am in no rush to get a nem but do want to start putting together a game plan.

No they will not cause an issue. I too am plagued with them in my 5 year old reef. No matter how many you break and kill there is always some that you can't get to. The secret.... get a slew of bumblebee snails. They will feed on them and get the population in check. I still have some here and there but since adding them last December I haven't had to manually kill any. There's a few here and there but the snails keep them to a minimum.

Ps this tank has about 10 different strains of rainbow nems in it.

Thanks much! I thought the bumble bee snails might eat other snails too? I have a conch that I love to pieces. I honestly don't care about my snails but don't want that cute little guy getting eaten. Any concerns about them eating conchs? I had some in my LiveAquaria shopping cart the other day and then read about them potentially eating other snails and got scared. Eeek.

I have bumble bees in with my conch. Never had a issue, but the bees are small, conch is big. Not saying they won't, but I've seen nothing to say they will.

Thanks! I have anthias and tend to overfeed hence my vermitid infestation is tough to get under control. I will try some out! Thanks all!

I have never had them mess with my conch either or any snails for that matter. I feed heavily too.

Someone posted that they use marine snow to fight vermited snails. I have not tried it but might be something to look into as well.
